Yeah, i still have the vinyl too. Killer album.
Got to meet SS, Landers, Coster, & saxist Wilczewski when they came to town on the album release tour [sans gtr, so no Stern or Dean B], & they all signed the album sleeve. The power went out prob 4 times that night, & SS took a rippin' solo over the tune form each time until they got the power back on, occasionally punctuated by sax hits or lines, & then the whole band would come back in. So some of those tunes ended up being burnin'-long.
Benrand posted 1 or 2 mp3s from the 1st VI a few months back, 1 of which was "All That Is" [w a blowing Dean Brown elec gtr solo - THX ben]...i wonder if he has every tune from there on mp3 that he could post here [img]wink.gif[/img]
The 2nd, "Orion," was great also. There's a contempo/fuso-meets-trad/jazz/bop swing tune called Blade on there which is killin' also. Great Dean gtr solo again.
I always liked "Perfect Date" off both Fiafiaga awa Vitalive. Cool SS solos on there AW.

Okay here is a fun new game for all the family (as long as they are drummers)
The idea is to nominate a recording that either features excessive blushda usage or tastiest use of a blushda.
In order to get the ball rolling my nominations are as follows:
Any tune from Gregg Bissonette's Submarine CD - I love Gregg but he does blushda rather a lot.
Gary Novak on track 10 from Chick Corea's Time Warp - I don't recall the name of the tune and don't have the CD to hand but there are several moments of glorious blushda action.
I would love to hear any other blushda treasures.

Steve Smith plays a great one on an old Journey live record (I think it's called Captured). I think it's available on CD. I can't remember where he plays it, but it might be during the drum solo.
That was the first time I heard this 'lick' and I immediately spent time figuring it out. Later on, I discovered the true source - Tony.

David Garfield "Catman" Gregg Bissonettes plays like 8 blushdas on that album.
haha Gregg should be careful with those, as Steve said, the blushda is not a toy!

For the record it was the Steve Smith DCI tapes that first wowed me with the blushda. As previously mentioned, the early Vital Info recording "Fiafiyaga" has a couple tunes on there where Steve plays it nicely. I kinda don't like how he explains it on his recent DVD however.
Novak on Time Warp as well (putting the right hand on the hat for a twist). Vinnie kills it on "Aliens Ripped My Face Off" on Karizma's Docuemnt disc.
A guy named Gary Garbitini (who to this day has some of the best technique and chops I've ever seen) taught me the lick while I was at MI. You think I abuse it now? You should have heard me when I furst leanred it (I sounded like Greg B sounds when he plays it today. I'm still mad at Novak for teaching him that.) [img]tongue.gif[/img]
I still come up with odd ways to play it, phrasing it in various ways, especially over triplets which sound really out on up-tempo stuff. However, at the last BP gig, I played it so much on one tune I looked at Derek and apologized after the tune was over. We had a good laugh at that.
